Taormina the beautiful

About 50 kilometres from Catania, Taormina offers striking vistas and delights of history.

A small town perched on the cliffs overlooking the deep blue Ionian Sea, Taormina oozes luxury and serenity. Walk around the streets, enjoy the views of the Etna and even, when the skies are clear, of Calabria! Founded by the Greek a few kilometres off its actual location, the city was ruled the Kingdom of Syracuse before Romans took over, as for the whole of Sicily.
The paved streets will lead you to the ancient theatre and its exceptional sound system, incredibly preserved and still standing after 23 centuries. Taormina's charm is to be found in the medieval town and its gorgeous palaces, like the Palazzo Corvaja and the Palazzo dei Duchi di Santo Stefano. Without the shadow of a doubt, the 12th century cathedral and San Caterina Baroque church will also dazzle you. A stone's throw away, the aptly named Isola Bella beach is calling your name. Just give in!
